In the event that the hydrolic power steering become inoperative,and vessel need to be operated under emergency steering conditions,the following emergency steering procedures are to be followed to bring the vessel to steerable status.
GUIDELINES FOR EMERGENCY STEERING ARE AS FOLLOWS :
1.Inform Master/Captain of main steering power failure.
2.Reduce engine speed at once 50% MCR
3. Go to the steering gear compartment.
4.Check steering piping lines prior steering
5.Communicate with bridge on steering directions using intercom.
6.Observe the rudder angle indication by the mechanical readout at the tiller arm provided.
7.Preferably two person to man emergency steering gear operations.
8.Have spare hydrolic oil standby in case of leakages top up.
